The challenge of an "EARTH OBSERVATION & GIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANT" at Planetek Hellas

As an “EARTH OBSERVATION & GIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANT”, you will be involved in supporting geospatial/remote sensing projects focused on the Defense, Security, and Emergency Management sector, which require the understanding and elaboration of remote sensing data, by sing EO/GIS software, and developing geospatial tools that automate workflows.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform imagery manipulation, processing and enhancement (e.g., ortho-rectification, colour balancing, mosaicking);
  • Analyze and extract useful information from multispectral, hyperspectral and SAR satellite data;
  • Digitization and photo-interpretation of satellite imagery;
  • Contribution in the preparation of technical proposals and reports.

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • Degree in Surveying Engineering, Forestry, Geography, Geology or other relevant domains;
  • A Master’s degree in Geoinformatics or Remote Sensing will be considered an asset;
  • Consistent understanding of GIS and EO concepts, such as projections, data management, formats and metadata;
  • Demonstrable experience of GIS and EO techniques in optical and SAR image processing, photo-interpretation and feature extraction;
  • Management and analysis of geospatial databases (generation of File geodatabases, execution of geoprocessing tools, digitization, population of attribute fields, creation of topology rules, model building etc.);
  • Experience with EO and GIS software applications, such as ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, SNAP and QGIS;
  • Experience in programming languages, particularly Python, used to automate EO data analyses and develop customised scripts;
  • Capability to work on your own initiative as well as within a team and to make a contribution into applied techniques and processes;
  • An essential condition is also the mastery of Greek and English languages.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS (optional)

  • Experience in advanced GIS techniques;
  • Solid background in object detection techniques  
  • Knowledge of photogrammetric processing in satellite/aerial imagery, including DTM generation and editing;
  • Expertise in preparing publications, technical reports, and technical offers for participation in tenders.

The ideal profile of the successful candidate is completed by seriousness and reliability, strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work within a team in order to meet specific objectives; and excellent communication skills combined with proactivity.

Your office will be located in Athens (Greece), but you will be able to work 3 days per week remotely.
