Planetek Hellas delivers to the Norwegian Coastguard satellite-based system for safe maritime traffic in the arctic zone

On January 15th, 2021, Planetek Hellas has delivered to the Norwegian Coastguard satellite-based system for safe maritime traffic in the arctic zone.

In the framework of the first Pre-Commercial Procurement in Europe on Earth Observation (MARINE-EO), Planetek Hellas has designed, implemented and successfully delivered an Earth Observation based system which will provide innovative monitoring information and routing services to support the Norwegian Coastguard Authority as well as private vessels navigating in or near ice areas in the Arctic zone.

In specific, the delivered system uses near real time satellite earth observation images (SAR & Optical) provided in the minimum possible time period thanks to the Svalbard Ground Stations operated by Kongsberg Satellite Services (K-SAT) partner of Planetek Hellas. Sophisticated modelling is also integrated in the final solution from innovative company StormGeo which acts as a subcontractor to K-SAT. The solution exploits the Copernicus Data and Information Access Service (DIAS) provided by Creotec Instruments and powered by Cloudferro.

The activity had a strong contribution from Planetek Italia, also partner of the Planetek Hellas lead consortium.
